A reimagined habitat for a chemist and a thespian.
Affectionately referred to as our Arts + Sciences house, this reimagined habitat for a chemist and a thespian infused warmth, mood, and soul into a new construction.
After moving back to the West Coast from New York City, the couple selected this property for its prime location and the charm of indoor-outdoor living (the house boasts an expanse of floor to ceiling glass walls and large outdoor terraces with sliding glass doors). But they soon began to miss the textures and character of their Williamsburg loft.
While the couple had hobbies and interests in spades, their personalities were grossly underrepresented in the cavernous space. Builder grade finishes made the house feel cold and impersonal, almost commercial, and their old belongs felt out of place and small under the 15 foot ceilings.
Working with their mutual love of old storied pieces we reshaped the home with a mix of custom millwork, floor to ceiling drapery, and collectable antiques to infuse a sense of story and soul.
Strategic Spatial Edits:
The key goal was to problem solve a wealth of too much empty space. The square footage, while impressive, was inefficient laid out. A long hallway downstairs featured kitchen-like counters spanning the entire length of the hallway that made the overall space confusing to use and a dumping ground for miscellaneous items.
